Motorola Ht750 User Manual
Hello all; new here. I just bought a used HT750 VHF 16 channel without the keypads.
It is for my local fire dept. I bought it from another one of our members, but unfortunately he doesn't know much about the functions. It does have the usual A, B and C buttons on the side as well as a PTT of course.
It has an orange button on the top - which I have figured out. It is programmed for an emergency PASS type alarm. Is there any way to figure out what each of the A, B and C buttons are programmed for? I know that I can take it to a communications store and they can hook it up to a computer and tell me, but I can't get off of work during their business hours. All of the buttons make some sort of audible tone when pressed.
Also I have different types of blinks and colors coming from the status LED on top. Would anyone be willing to help? I got it hooked up to a computer at the local communications shop yesterday and they were able to tell me a little about it.
I won't mention the tech's name over the internet, but if he happens to be looking at this thread I'd like to tell him I appreciate it. From what he could tell, everything was pretty good, except a few things. Weather is programmed on Ch16. Ch1 is of course my fire department's main Ch with repeater. Ch 2 is fire Ch without repeater.
I did recognize some of the other frequencies, which include the city police and also a number of local fire departments. There were also county and state frequencies there as well. The one thing that he did note was that transmission was enabled on every channel. He said it probably isn't supposed to be like that, but 'who knows who has been messing with it' lol.
He said something about everything being in 'carrier squelch'. He made an attempt at explaining it but it went over my head. I also asked him about some of the channels making an interference sound associated with my engine rpms in my vehicles. He said that taking it out of carrier squelch would help this alot.
Motorola Ht750 Frequency
He said that everything was set at 18 (some number I don't remember what it was or what it referred to) and said that it will have to be changed when everything moves to 12.5. Again - not sure what he was talking about here.
He also noted that some of the channels were programmed the same. Like for example - Ch12, 13, and 14 were all the same frequency. He said it was probably to keep from having an empty space or something. Now I'm not a radio tech, but I would think that if you had a 16 channel radio and only had 9 frequencies you wanted, couldn't you just program those 9 frequencies and then scan those as opposed to the way that it is now? Seems to me like it would take less time to scan through 9 channels than it would to scan through 16. As far as the buttons go, the top is set to emergency siren or similar to a PASS device.
Short press ON and long press OFF. The A button is set to SCAN. Short press ON and short press OFF. Long press for NUISANCE DELETE. The B button is set to short press VOLUME SET and long press UNASIGNED. The C button was set to short press MONITOR.
As far as the B button, he didn't know exactly what VOLUME SET meant. Can anybody elaborate on this? He didn't have time to really do anything to it, so I will probably be sending it over there to let them work on it. I do want to get some of the things corrected so that it will be working the best that it can for my needs. The one thing that he did note was that transmission was enabled on every channel. I think what he meant by all the 'transmissions' were enabled is that you are able to transmit on all the channels in your radio when there are some you probably shouldn't be transmitting on like police, sheriff, etc. 'Carrier Squelch' is like being in monitor mode or no 'PL' on that channel. For example: say your fire dept.
Their PL is 146.7. Farmer Bob down the road has VHF radios too.
Is also 155.125 and his PL is 76.0. You don't hear farmer Bob on yor fire radio and he don't hear you in the tractor because of the different PL's. Carrier Squelch also means 'no PL' in which you would hear farmer Bob and he would hear you. Hope that helps. That programer should be able to remove those channels that are the same unless you have something for him to program in that you want to monitor.
