So after getting my Generac up and running thanks to bassplayer, I have picked up and learned to repair a small handful of other generators. Keep in mind I do this for my own fun and learning. So I picked up a Honda em5000s and a Generac 4000exl for $60 for the pair. Hopefully I got a good deal. The Generac runs and then dies, so I can't confirm power yet. I got the Honda to run and produce power for a saw I tested it with.
I idles wonky, but I am happy it runs and makes power of course. I am going to need a airbox assembly as all that is there is the carb only. I also have a bunch of wires that look like someone ripped into them or something on the left side of the panel, coming down towards the starter area. There are also a couple of hoses coming from that general area as well.
I want to get the needed parts and repair the wiring as well. I am not sure if I need a battery yet, as I might have one if it will take a charge, just would need a battery tray of sorts I suppose. If any of you have parts for this model you don't need I would love to buy them at the 'getting rid of' price. I'll setting for a good website with really good prices. Searching eBay now of course. I will also need a manual to help me with the wiring.
I pretty much want to learn to fix it up right, sell it, and go find another one to play with. Here is a photo of it for reference. I can't wait to really dig into this one! I saw some of what you posted already.
Honda Em5000s Generator Service Manual
I didn't know if there was a shop manual online out there. I realized I needed the serial number after I posted this, drrrrrrr.

I'll get back with that of course at my earliest chance I can. I'm not in a big rush. I am sure that once I oull the panel off,I will have a lot of clues as to what wires go where based on where they start. I have also seen a few wiring such online but they are missing the whats what on the photo. I should have a little more time to dig into things this weekend. I will also try to get a few photos of what I am looking at for repairs, which will help of course. So I have managed to get a little time to work on the Honda this morning.
On the lower frame it has the badge EA7-1160298. There are other numbers in and around but I think that is the one you want.
Below is a photo of the hacked wiring. Not as bad once I pulled the panel off. Will need to undo it all to trace things back. Just looking for helpful info on where they go and color to what etc. I have some documents that I have to print up later that might give me a bit more info of course. I am finding many of the needed parts right on Amazon as I expected.
Anyone who might have some insight on wire identifying, the help is appreciated. Also, where exactly does the battery go on this? It has everything just no battery. I saw some bilt on tray for the end in one photo, but not in any others. Looks like that might be what I was looking for. I gotta find one if those, a carb rebuild kit/carb, whichever is cheaper these days.
So far, I have most of the wires around the motor identified as to where they are supposed to go with respect to function. I'll need to pull the panel apart and see if I can make sense of the color codes vs the schematics. Can you tell me what the two wires off the OHV cover come from and go to. I figured out the two on the carb more or less go to the on off switch for cutting fuel to the carb when shutting it down.

Thanks again. Picked up oil for an oil change. Also ordered up a new carburetor w/solenoid(since it was only $5 more than a rebuild kit), a new airbox with filter(thanks for the part numbers by the way. I should have a complete generator that just needs the wiring finished up. Hopefully all sensors still work, even though it works fine without any of them Here is a photo of what will hopefully be a clean wire sheeth of wires cumjng up soon. Still not bad for $60!
Also searched for almost an hour to verify what I originally thought was a thermal switch on the OHV cover. Taking a logical guess that it needs to be there Oops, deleted the photo accidentally. I know it looks like a mess still.
