Finite Markov chains (Chapter 0 and Chapter 1), 2. Countable Markov chains (Chapter 2), 3.
Continuous-time Markov chains (Chapter 3), 4. Martingales (Chapter 5).

Find a version of this syllabus for print. Grading policy: Homework: 50% (8 best grades out of 9 assignments will be taken in account); Take-home midterm: 25%; Take-home final: 25%. Translation from the percentage to the grade will be done according to the following key: A 91-100, A- 86-90, B+ 81-85, B 76-80, B- 71-75, C+ 66-70, C 61-65, C- 56-60, D 50-55, F 00-49. Tests: Both the tests will be held in a 'take-home' format. Samples will be posted approximately 10 days ahead of each test. First exam will cover the material of Chapters 0, 1, and 2 in the textbook. Second exam (not comprehensive) will cover the matrial of Chapters 3 and 5 in the text.
First exam will be given during the second week of November, the second one during the finals week. Take-home midterm exam. Due on Friday, December 4. The material to be covered: Chapter 0, Chapter 1, and Chapter 2 in the text. With (to be posted).
Homework: Homework assignments will be given regularly, approximately once in a couple of weeks. Slight variations of the assigned problems are likely to appear on the tests. Homework #1 (due Wed., September 9): Exercises 0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 1.1, 1.8(b, d, e) from the textbook.
